INTERLUDE
MUSIC FEST

Mandate /
Problem Statement

The goal of this project was to create a full visual identity for an opera music festival called Interlude. The scope included designing the festival logo, a promotional poster, a vinyl record cover, and social media graphics. The challenge was to visually translate the emotional depth and elegance of opera into a modern, cohesive brand that could connect with a broad audience—both traditional opera lovers and a younger crowd drawn to cultural and artistic events.

Solution

The concept behind Interlude stems from the idea of the intermezzo—a musical or theatrical pause between acts. I wanted the identity to reflect that quiet, thoughtful space that exists between performances, which often carries just as much emotional weight as the main act itself.

The logo design plays with the architecture of opera houses, particularly the curved balconies you see when looking out from the stage. Each shape in the logo represents a balcony box, and the spaces in between them highlight the “interlude”—the in-between moments. Altogether, the design also echoes the form of a stage front, placing the audience and performance at the core of the visual concept.

The balance of space, rhythm, and structure in the logo mirrors how music flows—calm, then intensity, then pause. The identity carries that same feeling across each element, with compositions that feel layered, dramatic, and intentional. Every part of the branding was designed to feel like a moment suspended in time—like an interlude itself.

Color Palette

The color palette was chosen to reflect both the warmth of human emotion and the richness of classical performance. Deep blues and muted purples represent the grandeur and atmosphere of an opera hall at night, while the softer tones—dusty rose, warm browns, and off-whites—add a sense of warmth, nostalgia, and intimacy. Together, they create contrast and harmony, supporting the dual identity of the festival as both bold and poetic.

Typography

For typography, I used the Doce Vita family in heavy, regular, and light styles to build hierarchy across the identity. Its geometric and elegant forms give a timeless, sophisticated look while remaining modern and clean. The different weights allow flexibility—from bold, attention-grabbing titles on posters to softer, lighter details on vinyl and digital designs—ensuring a consistent voice across all festival touchpoints.
