MAGAZINE
Mandate /
Problem Statement
The mandate for Urban Corner was to design a printed 16-page magazine with complete creative freedom in choosing its theme, name, and logo. Urban Corner is a publication that resonates with the lifestyle, culture, and creative expression of young people (20–35) living in Montreal’s urban core. These readers are independent, tech-savvy, passionate about art, food, entertainment, and everything that makes their city a rich and energetic place. The magazine aims to reflect their spirit and become their guide to the best that Montreal has to offer.

Solution
To bring this concept to life, I designed Urban Corner as a stylish, energetic, and somewhat raw publication — a reflection of the city’s creative scene. The editorial approach merges strong typography, bold color, and a curated blend of photography and illustration to illuminate the stories that make Montreal a unique and culturally rich place. The result is a magazine that feels alive, stylish, and fully in tune with its readership.
For the logo, I chose a wordmark style that stands out — a strong, geometric form that resonates with the magazine’s urban character — helping it become a recognizable symbol within the city’s cultural landscape.
The color palette for Urban Corner reflects the energetic, creative, and stylish spirit of Montreal’s urban culture. Rich blues, pinks, golds, and corals come together to bring warmth, depth, and contrast — much like the city’s graffiti-covered streets, bustling cafés, and arts scene. This combination adds a youthful, welcoming, and expressive feel to the editorial design, making it a perfect match for a magazine that resonates with its readers’ lifestyle and passions.
